This is a very interesting article authored by Kim A. Kastens and Ann Rivet in the journal The Science Teacher (January, 2008). This would be an excellent article to share with your students to foster a discussion of how scientists actually 'do' science. Do all scientists use the standard 'scientific method'? This article argues that Earth Scientists by far use many other modes of inquiry.
